PRODUCTION 1/representation and equality of gender within factual TV

 Love Island:

Love Island

In love island the subject of gender is often a topic of discussion, 5 male and female people are essentially put in a house and are encouraged to become intimate and effectively 'fall in love'

However the representation in love island is very stereotypical, for example, the men are shown to be quite masculine and well built and the women are shown to be girly and slim, and so reinforcing a gender stereotype involving desirable appearances.

Im a celebrity get me out of here:

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! 2018 line-up confirmed - Heart

Gender in 'Im a celebrity..' is better represented, again there are each 5 of each gender however how the contestants gender is represented is diverse and don't follow a specific stereotype.

Gogglebox:

Gogglebox's Tom Malone Jr spills secret to getting cast on Channel 4 show - Birmingham Live

In my opinion gogglebox is probably the show that represents gender the best, as it seems to be the most diverse, I think the cast are picked by how funny they are and how they interact with one another or who get on the best with each other and not their appearance, gender, sexuality etc..

The ratio of gender is not exactly equal but thats because each group is employed on their family and it would be very tricky to have the exact same equal amount of each gender. But the main point is that theres not a higher amount of one gender compared to another for a sexist reason but rather more for a random reason.
